The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Zhongshan in January 2021 decreased by 1.3% compared with last January, but increased by 0.5% from a month earlier.
On a month-to-month basis, food prices rose by 2.9%, while non-food prices fell by 0.1%. Consumer prices rose by 1.2%, while service prices decreased by 0.9%.
The prices of food, tobacco and alcohol increased by 1.9% in January, contributing 0.62 percentage points to the CPI increase. The prices of fresh vegetables, pork and eggs rose by 11.9%, 6.3% and 9.6% respectively.
On a year-over-year basis, the prices of food, tobacco and alcohol categories remained flat overall. Specifically, the prices of fresh vegetables increased by 4.6%, the prices of livestock meat decreased by 6.1% (with the price of pork dropping by 8.9%, which caused a decline of CPI by 0.22 percentage points), and the prices of poultry meat decreased by 8.4%.
The prices of service items decreased by 2.2% year on year, while the prices of medical services and education services rose by 7.9% and 3.4% respectively. Also, the prices of communication services rose by 1.1%.
Additionally, the prices of industrial products decreased by 1.7% year on year. Specifically, the price of gasoline decreased by 13.6%, while the prices of gold jewelry increased by 10.9%.
