Guangdong Provincial Communication Group announced that the first steel box girder of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge was fully set up on April 2, marking the transition to a a new chapter of the construction of the superstructure.
The 133.1 meters long, 20 meters wide, 4 meters high and 1,780 ton girder was transported to the construction site by Tianyi, a domestic ship specifically designed to help transport and erect the structure. Ship operators' excellent cooperation ensured the smooth and accurate placement of the steel box girder on the non-navigable bridge approach located in the Lingding East Flood Discharge Area.
"The non-navigable bridge approach is about 11.4 kilometers long. A total of 102 110-meter steel box girders and 23 60-meter steel box girders need to be set up," said Jin Zhijian, an engineer of the Bridge Engineering Management Department of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge Management Center.
