Theme interview campaign "China Along the Expressway" came to Zhongshan on April 17 to find latest news on the construction of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge and the Guangzhou-Zhuhai section of the Beijing-Hong Kong & Macao Expressway and their impact and significance on Zhongshan's social and economic development.
"From here to Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is about 20 kilometers as the crow flies. Buildings in Shenzhen can be easily seen on sunny days at this distance." At the construction site of the Zhongshan Bridge of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, Chen Yue, deputy chief engineer of the Management Center of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, said that the driving time from Zhongshan to Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport will be reduced to 20 minutes from the present 2 hours once the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is open to traffic in 2024. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge will propel further development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
On the morning of April 17, workers were busy with the construction of the main tower on the offshore construction trestle of the Zhongshan Bridge. "By the end of this year, Lingdingyang Bridge and Zhongshan Bridge will finish structural work." Jin Zhijian, engineer of the Bridge Engineering Department of the Management Center of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge mentioned.
The construction of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge started on December 28, 2016. Over the last 4 years, this super project has been gradually transformed from a design drawing to a reality, thanks to the efforts of 11,000 workers.
As can be seen from the map, the west side of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is connected with the under-construction Zhongshan-Kaiping Expressway, and the east side is connected with Guangzhou-Shenzhen Coastal Expressway and the under-construction west extension line of the Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport Expressway. It will be a critical connection line of the expressway network on the east and west sides of the Pearl River Delta.
"This channel will truly form the integral one-hour circle for major cities in the Greater Bay Area through the creation of a new traffic layout on the east and west sides of the Pearl River and improvement of the traffic network," added Chen Yue.
