Zhongshan's CPI down 0.5% year on year in Q1

According to the Zhongshan Investigation Team of the National Bureau of Statistics, in the first quarter of 2021, the consumer price index (CPI) of Zhongshan decreased by 0.5% year-on-year.

Food prices fell by 0.9%, while non-food prices fell by 0.4%. Consumer prices rose by 0.1%, while service prices decreased by 1.7%.

Among eight categories of goods and services, the price of medical care rose by 4.1%, the price of daily necessities and services rose by 0.7%, the price of education, culture and entertainment rose by 0.5%, and the price of food, tobacco and alcohol rose by 0.4%.

In January, Zhongshan's CPI rose by 0.5% from the previous month due to the increasing prices of fresh vegetables and pork. During the Spring Festival holiday in February, the CPI continued to rise, affected by the significant rise of the prices of pork, freshwater fish, fresh fruits, food delivery and culture and entertainment. In March, as the demands began to fall off after the Spring Festival, and the prices of fresh vegetables and pork dropped, while the reverse was true for gasoline, air tickets and educational services. Through the counteracting effects, the result was the CPI dropped slightly by 0.1%.
