Zhongshan mayor Xiao Zhanxin on November 24 met with a foreign consular delegation in Guangzhou. He discussed and exchanged views with consul-generals and consular representatives from over 20 countries.

On behalf of the CPC Zhongshan municipal committee and the municipal government, Xiao Zhanxin extended his warm welcome to the consuls and briefly introduced Zhongshan's economic and social development. Xiao mentioned that Zhongshan is the hometown of Dr Sun Yat-sen and a city based on the manufacturing industry. It has 38 national-level industrial bases, 3 industrial clusters with a value of at least 100 billion yuan, and boasts extensive foreign trade and economic partners. Nearly 4,000 enterprises from over 50 countries and regions have invested in Zhongshan.

The Zhongshan mayor warmly invited the consuls to visit Zhongshan more often, further strengthen interactive communication, and broaden areas of cooperation. He also expressed his hopes that consuls will continue to pay attention to, support, and promote Zhongshan, and recommend more local organizations to look towards Zhongshan for innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities to share mutual success.

Mehmet Kurtuluş Aykan, consul general of Turkey in Guangzhou, said on behalf of the delegation that Zhongshan is an important node city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and its transportation network is intertwined with that of the Greater Bay Area. Many Global 500 enterprises have invested here, and some high-tech enterprises are rising rapidly. Zhongshan has become a hot spot for investment by domestic and foreign enterprises. The consul general of Turkey in Guangzhou expressed his hopes that this meeting would further strengthen the bond between consulates general in Guangzhou and Zhongshan and advance their cooperation.
