The first main cable strand of the Lingdingyang Bridge section of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge was erected on May 15, marking the start of the main cable construction. This is also the first time that 2,060-MPa steel wires independently developed by China that are applied to bridge construction on a large scale.

There are two main cables on the upstream and downstream sides of the Lingdingyang Bridge. Each main cable consists of 199 strands, and each strand consists of 127 high-strength steel wires.

The East and the West Artificial Islands of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge project are under construction. After the main cable of Lingdingyang Bridge is erected within the year, it is planned to start the installation of tight cables, cable clamps and sling. The box girders and stay cables of the Zhongshan Bridge section are also being erected. Twenty-five pipe sections have been installed already in the underwater tunnel.
