A heavy rain hit Banfu Town at about 7:45 am on June 8. A car went out of control near Banfu Bridge and fell into the river. The driver was not able to open the window to escape by himself.

At this crirical moment, a sanitation worker drove a boat to save the driver but he failed to open the door. Wu Zhiwei and two other passers-by jumped into the river, broke the skylight of the car with a hammer, and finally pulled the driver out.

Wu Zhiwei said that he has been living here since he was a child. He could swim, so he jumped into the river to save the driver by instinct.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
