Zhongshan and Hong Kong are just separated by the Lingdingyang Estuary. With this natural geographical advantage, Zhongshan is endowed as the "vegetable basket" of Hong Kong. As early as the 1960s, Zhongshan started to supply fish to Hong Kong through waterway transport.

Nowadays, traffic network within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is getting convenient. It takes less time to transport fresher products from Zhongshan to Hong Kong on the basis of food safety.

According to Zhongshan Customs, Zhongshan currently has 36 aquatic product breeding bases which supply goods to Hong Kong, ranking first among prefecture-level cities in China. Since Hong Kong's return to the motherland in 1997, Zhongshan has supplied Hong Kong with 200,000 shipments of aquatic products, totaling more than 500,000 tons.

In addition to freshwater products, Zhongshan also supplies other farm products to Hong Kong. Over the past 25 years, Zhongshan has supplied more than 5,120 shipments totaling 33,600 tons of vegetables to Hong Kong. The food supplied to Hong Kong also includes frozen food, beverages, cakes and pastries.
