The section from Changjiang Road to Jinzishan Interchange of the South Outer Ring road was opened for trial operation on October 26. Four newly completed ramps as part of the Jinzishan Interchange project have also been put into use, jointly to alleviate traffic congestion on Bo'ai Road in downtown Zhongshan.
Instead of the usual 15-minute drive from Changjiang Road to Tanzhou Expressway which needs to go through Bo'ai Road with several traffic lights along the way, it now takes only about 4 minutes starting from Changjiang Road and going through the new section and then Ramp B of Jinzishan Interchange to Tanzhou Expressway, with no traffic lights across the whole journey.
The renovation project of South Outer Ring starts from Torch West Interchange in the east and ends at National Highway G105 in the west, passing through Torch Development Zone, East District, Wuguishan District, South District and Shaxi Town, with a total length of about 14.4 kilometers. The main road is designed with six two-way lanes and the auxiliary road has four two-way lanes. The project is scheduled to be completed in August 2024.
