A University Think Tank in Shanghai research group of the East China University of Science and Technology released the "China Urban Social Development Index & Top 100 Cities List (2022)" report on November 22.

The top 10 China cities in urban social development index are Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Nanjing, Wuhan, Chengdu and Tianjin. Zhongshan ranked 25th, up one place from 2021.

The top ten cities in terms of"economic development and people's livelihood" included Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi, Chengdu and Changzhou. Zhongshan ranked 43rd with an "A" rating.

The top ten cities in terms of "population development and social potential" included Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Xiamen, Wuhan, Beijing, Foshan and Zhongshan. Zhongshan made the top ten for 2 consecutive years.

In terms of "ecosystem construction and environmental governance",  Zhongshan ranked 12th, up 17 places from a year earlier.
