The south and north main towers of Xiangshan Bridge, a key project of the first phase of the Zhongshan East Outer Ring Expressway, have been both joined up.

Xiangshan Bridge is a double-deck two-way steel truss cable-stayed bridge for highways with the largest span and widest deck in China. The south and north main towers are expected to be topped out by late July 2023.

The south and north main towers come in the shape of an inverted Y. "The designed height of the main towers is 270 meters, the same as the height of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge's Lingdingyang Bridge section," said a head of the project.

Construction on the first phase of Zhongshan East Outer Ring Expressway is progressing smoothly and scheduled to be completed in December 2025. The south-north extension project of the second phase has entered the preliminary stage, with the initial project - the main part of the Cuiheng North Interchange - scheduled to commence on November 23.
