A video meeting was held between Xiao Zhanxin, mayor of Zhongshan and Camilo Benavente, mayor of Chillan, Nuble Region, Chile on December 14. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on friendly cooperation to further promote the construction of cooperation and exchange platforms in such fields as economic trade, culture, tourism, education and technology.

Xiao said both cities are hometowns of great people. Zhongshan, adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, is a livable and commerce, tourism-friendly city with superior location, convenient transportation, beautiful ecological environment, perfect public services in terms of education, healthcare and elderly care, and solid manufacturing foundation. Chillan has rich experience in modern agriculture, tourism and protection of history and culture. He hoped the two sides would take this opportunity to further strengthen exchanges, deepen cooperation and jointly conceive a better future.

Benavente said Chillan has huge potential in manufacturing as well as the export of agricultural products such as blueberry, strawberry and wine. He hoped the two sides would forge a mutually-beneficial and friendly partnership through the conclusion of the MoU to promote joint development.
