Wu Guanying, a famous designer of Zhongshan and a professor at Tsinghua University, died at the age of 67 on the morning of December 20.
Wu graduated in book design from the Department of Decoration Design, Central Academy of Art and Design (the predecessor of the Academy of Art & Design, Tsinghua University) in 1982.
Wu was the designer of Fuwa, the mascot for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, Fu Niu Lele, the mascot for the Beijing 2008 Paralymics, and the commemorative coin of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He was granted awards such as Beijing Olympics & Paralympics Special Merit Award and Award for Outstanding Contributions to Chinese Comics.
