On April 28, Lingdingyang Bridge of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge (Shenzhong Link) was successfully joined up with the pinning of the last steel box girder segment.
This means that the 17.2-kilometer bridge sections have been joined together, and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is heading towards the goal of being open to traffic in 2024.
As a key part of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, Lingdingyang Bridge is a fully floating three-span suspension bridge with a 1,666-meter main span, 270-meter-high main towers, and 213 steel box girder segments. The bridge is the world's largest steel box girder suspension bridge in terms of span and the world's highest cross-sea bridge in terms of navigation clearance.
It took nearly five years from the start of the foundation piling of the bridge on September 6, 2018 to its closure on April 28, 2023.
The main structure construction of the bridge will be completed after the wire cabling of the main cable, top plate anchoring, main tower top housing and other works coming up next.
