The Hongqimen Grand Bridge, part of Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway, saw its closure on May 21.
The bridge is 1,126 meters long and has a 520-meter main span, with the east and west bridge towers standing 178.5 meters and 176 meters high respectively.
As a key project of Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway, the Hongqimen Grand Bridge stands at the Pearl River estuary like a blooming kapok tree, straddling the cities of Guangzhou and Zhongshan. The joining of the bridge lays the foundation for the opening of the expressway in 2024 as scheduled.
With a length of 21.6 kilometers, the main line of Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway starts at the Xinken interchange of Nansha Port Expressway, ends at Zhongshan-Jiangmen Expressway, and is connected with the Xinlong interchange of Guangzhou-Macao Expressway. With a length of 10.7 kilometers, the branch line joins the main line and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, and is connected with the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge at the Wanqingsha interchange.
