From June 9 to 10 LT, a delegation led by Ouyang Jinquan, Vice Mayor of Zhongshan, visited Honolulu, one of Zhongshan's international sister cities, to carry out exchanges on Sun Yat-sen culture and sister city relationship, as well as learn about the conditions of overseas Chinese.
During the trip, the delegation met with Rick Blangiardi, Mayor of Honolulu, and Calvin Say, former Hawaii House Speaker and member of Honolulu City Council. The two sides reviewed the exchange results in education, culture and healthcare after Zhongshan and Honolulu became sister cities, and discussed further exchanges and cooperation.
The delegation also visited Punahou School, where Dr. Sun Yat-sen once studied, to learn about its achievements in exchanges, promotion of Sun Yat-sen culture, and international educational cooperation in recent years.
On the night of June 10, the delegation paid a special visit to Leland Sun, Chairman of the Sun Yat-Sen Center Foundation and great-grandson of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.
Honolulu is an important settlement for overseas Chinese of Zhongshan origin, and 70% of local Chinese people are of Zhongshan (Xiangshan) ancestry. The delegation visited the Lung Doo Benevolent Society, the United Chinese Society of Hawaii, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, and the See Dai Doo Society in Honolulu, as well as attended a welcome banquet held by local overseas Chinese.
