Guangdong held its provincial conference on high-quality development on February 18, focusing on sci-tech innovation to lead the development of a modern industrial system.

Sci-tech innovation has been a priority for Guangdong. According to the latest data, Guangdong's total R&D expenditure was approximately 460 billion yuan in 2023, accounting for 3.39% of the province's GDP. The Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou science and technology cluster has been ranked second globally in the Global Innovation Index (GII) for four consecutive years.

Technology companies in the province are at the forefront of research and development, facilitating rapid commercialization of research outcomes and continuously driving overall industries and sectors' technological upgrades.

According to Guangdong's latest plan, the province will simultaneously advance traditional, emerging, and future industries this year, building a modern industrial system based on international competitiveness and accelerating the formation of new productivity boosters.
