An analysis report on social stability risks for the Shenzhen–Nanning Expressway Zhuhai-Maoming section (Zhongshan section) project is in the public notice period, soliciting opinions and suggestions from the public.
Stretching about 360 km, the Zhuhai–Maoming section starts at Zhuhai Hi-Tech Zone and connects to the planned Shenzhen–Zhuhai Link. A traffic hub in Zhuhai's Beiwei village will link the section with Zhongshan's East Outer Ring Expressway.

Running westward through Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, Yangjiang and Maoming, the expressway ends at Maoming city's Huazhou, where it meets the Bobai–Gaozhou Highway in Yulin, Guangxi. The full line is set to open in 2032.
At about 25.4 km long with a 15.42-billion-yuan investment, the Zhongshan section traverses Cuiheng New District, Wuguishan subdistrict, and Sanxiang, Banfu and Shenwan towns.
Built as an eight-lane dual carriageway, the expressway has a design speed of 100 km/h from the starting point to Shenwan hub, rising to 120 km/h west of the hub.
