As one of Zhongshan's most iconic older residential compounds, Weili Village holds the urban memories of a generation. This summer, backed by favorable policies for renovating aging neighborhoods, the compound has regained its vitality.

Sky-blue and pink mazes and running tracks, well-organized parking spots, clean and neatly painted building facades, and a fully equipped children's play area — the once-dilapidated compound has become a social media sensation.

Built in 1986 as a staff housing estate for the Zhongshan Weili Washing Machine Factory, Weili Village now has 12 residential buildings and over 270 households.

To date, Zhongshan has launched renovation projects for 451 aging compounds, benefiting more than 90,000 households.
