Yongmo village brings centuries-old homes back to life

The Qi'ao Ancient Road winds through Yongmo village in Sanxiang town, Zhongshan, where century-old flagstone streets link ancestral halls, folk houses and watchtowers. The former residence of Zheng Guanying still wears its gray bricks and black tiles. On the square outside, visitors stroll with cameras in hand, and the aroma of coffee drifts from the old houses. This is the autumn version of Yongmo.

In recent years, the village has pressed ahead with the revitalization of historic buildings. A total of 342 rural houses have been upgraded and 76 old buildings placed under listed management. Two immovable cultural relics, 10 ancestral halls and more than 500 distinctive folk houses have also been consolidated and held in reserve. The Zheng Guanying Cultural Exhibition Zone, covering 8,110 square meters, has opened to the public. Public cultural spaces, from the Konghou Culture Museum to the Xiangshan Study in the Huaqiao Building, are now linked in a single chain. The village stages more than 200 public cultural events a year and received 1.54 million visitors in 2025.
