The HKUST-Zhongshan Joint Innovation Center was opened on Clear Water Bay Campus of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology a few days ago.

The Center aims to utilize the advantages of HKUST in scientific and technological research, technology transfer, talent cultivation, innovation and entrepreneurship in order to promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and organically combine Hong Kong's scientific and technological innovation resources with the actual needs of Zhongshan's innovation and development.

Zhongshan Science and Technology Bureau and the HKUST signed an agreement in July 2018 to build the joint innovation center.

Since the signing of the agreement, the center has held two sessions of the HKUST One Million Dollar competition in Zhongshan. A total of 274 teams from Hong Kong and the Mainland took part in the competition, 30 of which won the first, second and third prizes in the Zhongshan Division and 10 even entered the national competition.

The center also introduced two batches of six innovative projects from high-end scientific research institutions. These projects cover high-end equipment manufacturing, bio-medicine, photoelectric technology, new materials and other fields. Some of them have been transformed into enterprises and registered in Zhongshan.
