The Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area clearly states that efforts should be put into cultivating major industrial projects for key fields such as 3D printing. The application of 3D printing technology in the medical field is considered to be a medical technology revolution.

According to the Zhongshan Leading Group Office of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Construction, Zhongshan has set up a special working group to draw up a development plan for the international cooperation innovation zone of bio-pharmaceutical technologies. In addition to supporting the 3D printing projects, Zhongshan also pays efforts to accelerating the construction of the biomedical technology innovation platforms and promoting R&D and achievements industrialization of biological medicine.

At present, 3 hospitals in Zhongshan have introduced 3D printing technology, with which they have completed nearly 200 complicated orthopedic operations.

It is known that Xiaolan People's Hospital adopted 3D printing technology early in 2013, and in March this year it introduced the 5th 3D printer. The hospital succeeded in completing more than 100 orthopedic operations with this technology.

Zhongshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine also introduced 3D printers in 2016 and has completed more than 50 complex surgeries. By virtue of 3D printing technology, the hospital became the first in Guangdong to successfully perform an orthopedic and functional reconstruction operation for a patient with complex deformities.

Zhongshan People's Hospital applied 3D printing technology to its orthopedics department in 2017. With the technology, the hospital has finished a dozen of difficult orthopedic surgeries.
