The ophthalmology medical alliance, established by the Torch Development Zone Hospital (TDZH) along with the renowned Joint Shantou International Eye Center (JSIEC) of Shantou University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, was inaugurated on August 8.

JSIEC will dispatch relevant expert groups to participate in the development planning, medical technology exchange and talent and expert training of the Ophthalmology Department of TDZH.

The medical alliance implements a unified clinical pathway and diagnosis and treatment specifications, and establishes a clinical database of major diseases shared by both parties.

Besides, the two-way referral green channel will be opened for patients, and the working mechanisms and information platforms for intractable case consultation, case discussion, remote clinic, remote consultation, remote surgery guidance, remote surgery teaching, and remote imaging diagnosis will be established to boost the diagnosis, treatment ability and technical level of ophthalmic diseases of TDZH.

As the second largest eye center in Guangdong Province, JSIEC is a non-profit class 3 ophthalmology hospital integrating medical service, education, research and blindness prevention funded by prominent Hong Kong patriot Mr Li Ka-shing.
