The cooperation base for a national research project "China Cohort Study on Mental Disorders" was recently set up in Zhongshan. The unveiling ceremony was held in Zhongshan Third People's Hospital.

Zhongshan Third People's Hospital is the only class-3 public hospital specializing in mental health disorders, with a complete community management and clinical treatment system for mental disorders.

With the settlement of the base, the clinical scientific research team of the hospital will undertake research for the project and assess clinical symptoms of patients with severe mental disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, depression and etc) within Zhongshan, and use molecular techniques to analyze the genetic components in patients' blood to provide research evidence for a better understanding of the causes of mental health disorders in China.
