As of March 7, over 64,000 citizens in Zhongshan have been vaccinated with 119,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine being applied in total. About 90% of these people were vaccinated with 2 doses. At present, Zhongshan boasts a sufficient COVID-19 vaccine stockpile for focus groups.

Lyu Haiying, deputy director of the Immunization Program Institute of the Zhongshan Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that all the COVID-19 vaccines used in Zhongshan are inactive, meaning that they are safe and stable comparatively. However, multiple doses were required to develop a strong immunity.

Lyu said the adverse reactions monitored by Zhongshan Center for Disease Control and Prevention were mainly local reactions, and the adverse effects rate is no different from that of other vaccines on the market.

Lyu said the COVID-19 vaccine is free of charge. About 2 million citizens in Zhongshan, aged 18 to 59, are eligible for vaccination which will be given to them in anorganized manner according to national and provincial arrangements.

Currently, students and personnel who need to go abroad on business can also be vaccinated. They can apply for vaccination at local epidemic headquarters with required information and materials.

At present, there are 30 vaccination sites in Zhongshan.
