The Zhongshan Transportation E-pass for the Elderly will be launched on Alipay on February 5. The e-bus card will be applicable for Zhongshan users who have already applied for physical IC cards.

"Eligible senior citizens can apply for their own electronic transportation pass on Alipay. Scanning the QR code with an electronic pass can provide the same free ticket as a physical IC card for senior citizens." An official of the Zhongshan Bureau of Transport said that compared with physical cards, it is more convenient for senior citizens who were accustomed to using mobile phones to scan QR codes.

It is worth noting that the implementation of this new E-pass will not affect the normal use of the existing physical IC cards.

In addition, the official said that the Zhongshan Bureau of Transport would then focus on the online application of electronic cards for the population aged over 60 years old who have already applied for Hong Kong, Macao and Zhongshan residence permits (non-Zhongshan household registration in mainland cities).
