"I am very happy that I can take the bus for free now, just like the other local elderly in Zhongshan," said Ms Yang, a Hong Kong/Macao resident living in Zhenhua Community, Zhongshan's Sanxiang Town. Recently, she received the "Bus Card for Elderly from Hong Kong and Macao Living in the Mainland" from the community.
In February this year, Sanxiang Town took the initiative to set up the "Special Service Office for Hong Kong and Macao People in the Mainland" in Zhenhua Community to provide convenience services in terms of government affairs, living, schooling, medical treatment, employment and others for people from Hong Kong and Macao.
There are 4 residential communities near Zhenhua Road in Sanxiang, with a population of over 10,000, including over 2,700 from Hong Kong and Macao. Providing Hong Kong and Macao residents with bus cards and social security cards was the first service provided by the Office.
Elderly citizens over 60 from Hong Kong and Macao who live in Zhongshan can apply for special bus cards to take the bus for free. In addition, foreigners, people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as overseas Chinese who are currently employed and insured in Zhongshan can apply for third-generation social security cards. Cardholders have access to such services as social insurance payment, work-related benefit and medical treatment in Zhongshan.
