The unveiling ceremony of the GBA Research Institute, CAIQ (Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine) was held in Zhongshan's Torch Development Zone on May 26. Four national-level research centers accredited to the GBA Research Institute, including the Special Food Safety Research Center, Product Environment Health and Safety Research Center, Quality Safety Testing Center of Fine Chinese Herbal Medicines, and Cosmetic Quality Improvement and Industrial Development Research Center, were also unveiled that day.

Over the next 10 years, the GBA Research Institute plans to incubate over 100 high-tech enterprises and cultivate 3 to 5 companies which will be listed on the "secondary market".

Next, the GBA Research Institute will put efforts in building new-type R&D organizations with national inspection and testing standard certification in such areas as cosmetics and special food and introducing upstream and downstream enterprises to build industrial clusters.

The institute is setting up an expert committee that consists of nearly 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. A group of robust scientific and technological innovation enterprises and industry funds are about to settle in the institute as well.
