The Ministry of Civil Affairs has launched a pilot program in Liaoning, Shandong, Guangdong, Chongqing, and Sichuan to provide inter-province marriage and divorce registration services. Long-term migrant residents in these areas can get their marriage licenses registered in the habitual residence of either side.
On the morning of June 1, Mr Guan and his wife received their marriage licenses at Zhongshan Marriage Registration Center, becoming the first couple in Zhongshan to enjoy this new policy. On the same day, a total of 12 migrant couples registered for marriage in Zhongshan.
At present, only marriage and divorce registration services are provided through this inter-province program, and services such as the replacement of marriage licenses, marriage filing query, issuance of non-marriage/marriage registration records, and marriage registration for foreigners, overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are excluded.
At present, the inter-province marriage and divorce registration can only be handled at Zhongshan Marriage Registration Center. To avoid any crowds, appointments 1 to 15 days in advance are recommended.
