The general office of the National Health Commission on October 19 issued the 2021 National Age-friendly Communities List. A total of 43 communities in Guangdong province made the list, and East District's Huayuan Community was the only one in Zhongshan selected.

There are 3,551 people aged 60 or above in Huayuan Community, accounting for 29% of the its total population. Huang Minrui, secretary of the Huayuan Community Party Committee, said that its comprehensive elderly care service system should is the main factor in making the list. Through network-based management, elderly service areas, volunteer service teams, the micro-renovation of old communities, catering services for the elderly and other programs, the community is effectively resolving any urgent difficulties and worries of the elderly community.

Speaking of the changes in the community in recent years, Mrs Feng, who is over 70, expressed her approval. "Living here for 33 years, I have participated in a series of activities in terms of singing, dancing, cooking, paper-cutting and volunteer services. After retirement, I can not only continue to achieve personal growth, but also make like-minded friends. I feel lucky to live in such a warm family!"
