"By scanning the QR code with a cell phone and entering the last four digits of your phone number, you can open the locker. It's really convenient!" Mr Shen, a sophomore at UESTC, Zhongshan Institute, spoke highly of the newly installed smart food delivery lockers in the school.

To further strengthen COVID-19 prevention and control, 29 major places including schools and hospitals in Zhongshan were selected as pilot sites to install the new smart food delivery lockers. These machines will be further used in office buildings, commercial centers and other public places to reduce direct contact during food delivery.

At present, UESTC, Zhongshan Institute has installed double-sided smart food lockers at its four campus gates. The food delivery drivers scan the QR code on the side outside the campus and put the orders into the cabinets; the recipients can take them inside the campus to realize contactless food delivery and pick up.

According to a spokesperson of Zhongshan Institute, the smart lockers are equipped with ultraviolet sanitizers, and Zhongshan Institute has also arranged special workers to clean and disinfect the machines regularly.
