Whether it's scorching hot in summer or bitterly cold in winter, you will always come across "volunteer red" in Zhongshan. They warm the hearts of everyone in the city and enhance Zhongshan's reputation as a "city of charity".

Currently there are over 1.1 million registered volunteers in Zhongshan, more than 23% of the permanent population. More 1.18 million voluntary service activities have been held, with an average of 125 activities per day.

Volunteer service in Zhongshan originated from the "Charity Parade for the Elderly" in 1988. In March 1996, the first voluntary organization in Zhongshan named the Zhongshan Youth Volunteer Association was established. In February 2010, the Zhongshan Volunteer Service Federation was established.
