This is a neighborhood whose story has been written and rewritten time and again.
Congshanfang Block was built in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic-era. Here, over a hundred overseas Chinese houses are laid out in picturesque disorder, exuding a delicate and graceful charm, like a modest and refined young lady.
Yet as time flows on, the overseas Chinese houses gradually aged. Years of neglect, complicated property rights, and no one to take charge all of these once left them utterly dilapidated.
As the Xiangshan Ancient City protection and revitalization project moves forward, some overseas Chinese houses broke free from the deadlock of property rights, had their architectural features restored, and burst forth with new life.
No.22 Congshanfang Block is the very epitome of all these changes.
