This summer, the 78-year-old American writer Victoria Fong revisited Antang Village in Zhongshan's Dachong Town, the hometown of her mother Oy Lum. Fong is currently writing a novel based on Oy Lum's family history. "My grandfather, Lin Liu Nong, worked with his fellow villager Lin Jun Fu to follow Sun Yat-sen in the 1911 Revolution," Fong said. It is reported that they played a key role in planning the Xiangshan Uprising in November 1911.

"I'll be sharing some stories about my grandfather in the book, but part of my book is to honor my mother," Fong explained. Oy Lum became an orphan at the age of fifteen and immigrated to the United States in 1935 to escape the war. With her husband chronically ill, Oy Lum single-handedly raised five daughters by working as a seamstress. "It was my mother's resilience that sparked my curiosity about China," Fong said, adding that this trip was aimed at gathering more material for her writing.
