After five months of renovation, the building project of Yandun Mountain Tower in Zhongshan Park was completed on January 18. Nearly 37 years after the last reconstruction, Yandun Mountain Tower once again showed Zhongshan residents its new elegant demeanour.

The stones around the tower base have been resurfaced, the stone railings are renewed, and the lower layer has been paved with turf.

Yang Qingjian, an engineer in the Zhongshan Urban Landscape Management Center, said that the renovation uses traditional techniques and materials to "remain its old appearances in restoration". The rotten wooden guardrails have been replaced by weatherproof teakwood rails with waterproof and ant-resistant measures taken before the installation. In addition, landscape lights are added, which will be open all night long during the holidays in the future, to encourage citizens to come and play. "However, for safety reasons, Yandun Mountain Tower is temporarily closed to the public."

To Zhongshan people, Yandun Mountain Tower is one of the city's oldest landmarks. During the Spring Festival and Double Ninth Festival every year, tens of thousands of Zhongshan people will climb the Yandun Mountain and walk around the tower for good luck.
