A shady grove, with a stone inscribed with Chinese characters "Chinese Women's Table Tennis Team Grove", lies next to the Shaxi Stadium of Zhongshan. Many visitors would like to take commemorative photos here to celebrate the impressive achievements of the Chinese women's table tennis team in the just-ended Tokyo Olympics.
"These trees were planted by the world champions and Olympic champions of the Chinese women's table tennis team on March 10, 2012. When Shaxi Town held the annual tree planting activity, the team members who were training at the Shaxi Gymnasium joined the tree planting. Sixteen female players including Ding Ning, Guo Yue and Liu Shiwen personally planted thirteen kapok and Madagascar almond trees here," said Liu Yueming, former director of the Shaxi Gymnasium.
After almost 10 years, the saplings have grown into tall trees. The same goes with the Chinese women's table tennis team and their extraordinary achievements. At the recently-concluded Tokyo Olympics, they won the gold and silver medals in singles, and continued dominance of the team event with their 4th consecutive gold medal.
