Based on their historical value, construction progress and management status, six parks are included in The Zhongshan Historic Parks List for 2023. Have you ever visited any of them before?
Zhongshan Park
Zhongshan Park is located on Yandun Mountain in Fengming Community in Shiqi District. It was built with funds raised by overseas Chinese in 1946 to commemorate Dr Sun Yat-sen.
Covering an area of 10 hectares, Zhongshan Park features the Yandun Mountain Pagoda, a provincial cultural heritage site, and the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Pavilion, a municipal cultural heritage site. There are four ancient camphor trees, two ancient flame trees and one ancient white fig tree in the park.
Xishan Park
Xishan Park is on Xishan Mountain in Taiping Community in Shiqi District, with an area of 8,637.4 square meters. The park is home to six kapok trees (five in existence) grown during the reign (1851-1861) of Emperor Xianfeng of the Qing Dynasty.
Xishan Park features the Monument to the Martyrs of Zhongshan County, a provincial cultural heritage site, and three municipal cultural heritage sites, the Xishan Temple, the Laiqing Pavilion and the former site of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Library. There are six ancient kapok trees and one ancient camphor tree in the park.
Yueshan Park
Yueshan Park is at the end of Pasha Street on Sun Wen Middle Road, with an area of about 2,576.7 square meters. Built in 1934 by residents through fundraising, the park features pavilions, garden paths and ancient banyan trees.
Yueshan Park is a cultural heritage site with two ancient banyan trees and one Ficus concinna tree.
Ma Ying-piu Memorial Park
Ma Ying-piu Memorial Park is in Shachong Village, South District. Ma Ying-piu (1864-1944) was a pioneer in China's department store sector. In 1900, he raised funds to found the Sincere Department Store in Hong Kong, and in 1917, he founded the Shanghai Sincere Company.
Funded by Ma's descendants, Ma Ying-piu Memorial Park was built in 2005, covering a land area of 3 mu. The park features three continental buildings of different styles.
Fuxushan Park
The 600-mu Fuxushan Park has natural and artificial landscape areas. The park features such man-made attractions as the Wenchang Pagoda, the Treasure Tripod, the artificial lake and the recreation square.
Fuxushan Park is also the first orienteering theme park in Guangdong. While enjoying the fun of orienteering, participants can experience Fusha's rich culture and history step by step.
Fengshan Park
The 7.8-mu Fengshan Park is on Wenhua Road in Xinshi Community, Xiaolan Town, with some 1,500 trees. The park features a central pavilion, a fish-watching platform and a pond, the Phoenix Platform, the Fengqi Pavilion, the Morality Wall and other facilities. It also has a recreational center for the aged and a children's playground.
Fengshan Park is also home to the Xiaolan Martyrs Cemetery, a municipal cultural heritage site, and an ancient banyan tree.
