The recent announcement of a design competition for the Chongkou Mine Pit Tourism Project in Zhongshan ignited widespread public interest. Backed by a 10 million yuan investment, the initiative aims to craft a "luxury wilderness retreat" anchored in the healing economy, establishing a new eco-tourism IP for the Greater Bay Area.
Chongkou Village's quarrying legacy spans over 40 years, leaving behind a large mine pit and a small one. In 2021, the smaller pit transformed into the ZCAMP Starship Camp, a futuristic glamping site where spaceship-style lodges merge with the dramatic mine pit landscape. Despite room rates exceeding 1,000 yuan, bookings remain fiercely competitive. The larger pit, spanning 12 hectares with depths of 50 meters, showcases a rare "deep pool + forested hills" terrain.
The redevelopment will integrate the large pit with the Cuiheng National Wetland Park, introducing premium accommodations and water-based activities to complement the smaller pit's glamping-outdoor fusion. It will also connect with nearby Minguo-style blocks to create an immersive tourism experience network.
