Robots' production in technology powerhouse Shenzhen is highly efficient and of top quality. And, robots will soon be walking into hotels–as servants.

A hotel run entirely by robots, located on the western artificial island of the ShenZhong (Shenzhen-Zhongshan) Link, is expected to welcome its first guest by early 2027 in what its developers bill as the world's first hospitality venue to be served entirely by machines.

Unveiled at a signing ceremony by Pudu Robotics and the Shenzhen-based culture and tourism industry development company, the project will deploy robots in every guest-serving role, such as greeting visitors, carrying luggage, handling visitors checking in, providing room services, delivering meals, cleaning, making security checks and even accompanying guests.

Tourists, the companies say, will be served by robots 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the hotel which will be opening in phases.

The venture marks a bold step in Shenzhen's drive to fuse its booming robotics industry with tourism and transform the western artificial island of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link — until now just a roadside photo stop with great views — into a destination in its own right.

The island is expected to evolve into a tech-themed resort that pairs novel experiences with high-end hotels and leisure facilities.

Shenzhen is fast becoming a hub for manufacturing and exporting robots. The city logged 4.03 billion yuan ($596 million) in robot exports in the first four months of this year, accounting for 25.5 percent of the nation's total.

According to Customs data, China exported a record 8.14 million robots of various types, valued at 15.79 billion yuan, in the first four months of 2026.
